High Demand for Anti-Racism Work in Schools

The conference “Racism and Education” took place on November 7, 2025, in Göttingen. Teachers, parents, pupils, multipliers, civil society representatives, and administration bodies gathered to discuss racism in schools and formal education from various perspectives. It was the first time this topic had been addressed in Göttingen. The event was organized by the new Counseling Center against Racism in Education.

Participants shared experiences and ideas in workshop groups. They documented racial incidents and structures in school life, along with best-practice examples for addressing racism. In the end, they proposed measures and activities to combat racial structures and behaviors in formal education. Key demands included:

  • teacher training to raise awareness of racism,
  • developing anti-racist school concepts and missions,
  • creating toolboxes for handling racism and incidents.

Our partner organization – Ifak participated in the conference and presented “Participa City” as a valuable teacher training resource. The dialogue was fruitful and highlighted the urgent need for action in education.
